First Rolling for the Autosport 1000Km of Silverstone
The first Le Mans Series free practice has just been held. The session has allowed the LMP1s to resume after their Hungarian collapse. The two arch rivals Audi and Peugeot have started the hostilities. Audi Sport Team Joest's Audi R15 TDI n°7 has made the best times very closely followed by Team Peugeot Total's Peugeot 908HDi-FAP n°1. Team Rebellion Racing's Lola B10/60 Coupé n°12 completes the leading trio. In LMP2, Strakka Racing's HPD ARX-01c n°42 confirm their achievement in Hungary and keep the best times ahead the Pescarolo-Judd n°35 of Team OAK Racing. In LMGT1, there is no surprise with Larbre Competition's Saleen S7-R n°50. The Porsche 997 GT3 RSR n°75 of Team Prospeed Competition takes once again the lead in the LMGT2 Porsche/Ferrari duel. In Formula Le Mans n°48 (Team Hope Polevision Racing) achieves the best time in front of N°45 of Team Boutsen Energy Racing.

Philippe Leloup, Team Manager of the ORECA Matmut Team explains his ambitions for the Autosport 1000km of Silverstone: “Our aim is clearly to win the race and not only the title as we are aware that the season's last race has an important impact. A challenge within reach for the Team.

On the eve of the finale, Philippe Sinault, Signature Plus' team manager gives us his impressions. The Lola Aston Martin n°8 driven by Pierre Ragues / Franck Mailleux / Vanina Ickx can aim for the title. It is only two small points from the Oreca Matmut team. Everything is possible: "The situation is fantastic since ORECA should have been crowned long ago. We are not equipped to battle fairly. We will rely on reliability to make sure of crossing the finish line. We will take advantage if ORECA doesn't fulfil their expectations; and we keep in mind that the weather could play an important part during the weekend." Answer on Sunday at 5.55pm

Nigel Mansell won't take part the race
This week-end, the Beechdean Mansell team will have to forget Nigel Mansell as a driver. The British champion does not hide his disappointment: "It's a great shame but I'm not going to be driving this weekend. I will instead be doing the same job as team manager as I did in Hungary. I have heard from the doctor that I can't be signed off following my crash at Le Mans. I was hoping to just do three laps to qualify for the race and then do the final stint of the race, but I am not even allowed do that.” Despite his absence on the track, the F1 World champion will be very present in the pit to support his children. The team is very keen to repeat their Hungarian achievement. Nigel considers this possibility with a lot of pride. «The great thing about the Le Mans Series is that you can plug drivers in and out of the cars and Greg and Leo did a magnificent juob last time out to win their class. I was a very proud Dad when they won and we feel, as a team, we got the monkey off our backs.» The Mansell family will be very eager not to disappoint their public!

Duels in view at the Autosport 1000Km of Silverstone
On Sunday at 11:55 am, 46 race cars will take the start for the last time in 2010. This final promises to be exciting. At 1000Km from the outcome, only one category, LMGT1 has consecrated its champion, Larbre Competition, during the Hungary round.
Everything remains possible! In LMP1, four teams can claim to the title: ORECA Matmut, Signature Plus, Audi Sport Team Joest and Rebellion Racing.
In LMP2, Strakka Racing will continue concentrating their efforts to win. They will have to reckon with RML, current leader in LMP2.
In LMGT2, between Felbermayer and AF Corse, who will win the title? Indeed, the Porsche 997GT3 RSR n°77 is in the best position to allow the Felbermayer team to impose itself in LMGT2 but it is followed very closely by the Ferrari F430GT from the Team AF Corse. Strakka Racing makes history!
The twists and turns of the Hungaroring
test cars and drivers to the absolute limit. With a high level of down force,
exceptionally low grip and high track temperatures, the 1,000Km of Hungaroring
have been very demanding on drivers, teams and cars. Nobody could hold a candle to Strakka
Racing's Danny Watts on Sunday morning's qualifying in Hungary, and the British team's overall victory
made history with the very first overall victory for a LMP2 car in the Le Mans Series. Jonny Kane, Nick Leventis and Danny
Watts have been pretty invincible as the Strakka Racing HPD ran without the slightest technical problems over
the entire distance and scored its second victory in
LMP2 and first overall in the 2010 season today.

The Hungarian rhapsody
The Le Mans Series heads to Hungary for the very first time so the 1,000Km of Hungaroring is a leap in the dark for most of teams and drivers. Team ORECA Matmut took their first victory with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP one month ago in Portugal and expects to clinch another one in the heat of the night at Budapest.
The Hungaroring lies just east of Budapest and the Castle District of Buda has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The layout has not been too much modified over the years and the latest changes see the longest lap in the circuit's history with a total distance of 4.384 km.
With its slow corners and its narrow straights, many say its characteristics more closely resemble a street circuit than a purpose-built track. However, its beautiful setting in a natural amphitheatre makes it an excellent venue for spectators. They should enjoy a race that Team ORECA Matmut ex-Formula One driver Olivier Panis predicts tough.

Everything came together for Nicolas Lapierre when the flag dropped for the 20-minute qualifying. His last, and quickest lap, with a time of 1:30.681, was enough to secure the French driver his second pole in the 2010 series.
Because the race starts later in the afternoon, the morning schedule of the qualifying session was unusual, but Nicolas Lapierre was fully awake as he was able to repeat last year's pole for team ORECA Matmut.

“The Algarve circuit is fantastic because it is different from most new tracks. It has a good mixture of high speed and slow corners with a few blind turns and it winds up and down all the way. The track is interesting and very demanding.
You accelerate hard from the start line which goes slightly downhill. You brake hard and change down quickly from sixth to third gear for the first right-handed corner. This corner is tricky first because it is bumpy, but also because you have to carry the speed through the very short straight. The second corner is high speed which is taken flat out then hard on the brakes for the first hairpin, taken in first gear.[...]

Jean Alesi and Giancarlo Fisichella: their feelings after the free sessions
Sportscars racing is a new challenge for ex-Formula One drivers Jean Alesi and Giancarlo Fisichella as the Italian driver explained: “It is not easy to share the cars with two other drivers. We only ran ten laps each in both practice sessions so it is not easy to find the limits of the car.”
Last year the driver from Rome was on pole for the Belgian Formula One Grand Prix, but this year, “it is not really important to be on pole – it is more important to finish the race,” Giancarlo said. “The race will be tough because the weather is always unpredictable here at Spa. Of course, it would be better for everyone that the track stays dry, but this morning I was the quickest on a wet track so rain would not be a problem.”

Exciting duels are awaited in every category and the level of competition will be higher than ever on the extremely technical Spa Francorchamps circuit, much appreciated by the drivers.
Drivers are all here: Jean Alesi, Sebastien Bourdais, Dindo Capello, Giancarlo Fisichella, Allan McNish, Nicolas Minassian, Olivier Panis, Stéphane Sarrazin and so many other that we cannot mention all of them!
To be noted: the absence of the Mansell family and their Beechdean Mansell Ginetta-Zytek 09S; because of technical incidents, the team prefers not to participate in this race.
Download the 1000 Km of Spa Francorchamps entry list and let yourself be guided by Belgian Vanina Ickx who describes in our official press release the details of this circuit that she knows by heart.

Audi on top form
What did we learn from the 8 Hours of Le Castellet? 2010 has all the hallmarks thus far of a brilliant season, with Audi battling it out with reigning champion Aston Martin Racing, and ORECA-Matmut moving forward to challenge both of them with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP.
The first victory from Audi with the R15 Plus, a very successful debut of the ARX-01 in Europe, a practice session for Larbre Compétition in GT1 and a brilliant race from Porsche finishing in a GT2 victory.
The intensive off-season development work has obviously paid off for the bulk of the teams, as very few teams retired. The race has been very exciting till the end on the 5.791 km legendary track.

Despite a start from the pole position, after more than 2h30 of race, the Oreca-Matmut's Peugeot 908 HDi FAP is not leading the classifications. The car was forced to make a stop of 18 minutes because of a problem with the air jack. Nicolas Lapierre is hardly trying to make up for lost time.
The new Audi R15 Plus is demonstrating its reliability from now, as the Lola Aston Martin are in second position (n°009 from the Aston Martin Racing) and fourth position (n°008 from Signature Plus, with Pierre Ragues, Franck Mailleux et Vanina Ickx at the wheel).
But there is still 5h30 to be raced, and the final classification can still change a lot in the LMP1 category, as the beginning of this race showed it!

Nicolas Lapierre, supported by his team mates Stéphane Sarrazin and Olivier Panis, made the best time in LMP1 this afternoon during the qualifying sessions. A track lap with...Stéphane Sarrazin!
Peugeot works driver, Stéphane Sarrazin, will drive the Team ORECA-Matmut Peugeot 908 HDi FAP in the Castellet 8 Hours.
Join Stéphane to discover the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit that he knows so well:
“At the end of the start-finish line, you brake for the first tightened chicane “La Verrerie”, taken in second gear. This is a difficult corner, because there is a little bump and you have to find out the right time to accelerate. A quick squirt of power before you jump on the brakes for the right-handed “Hotel” corner. The “Camp” right-hander hairpin, taken in first gear, is upon you very quickly. You must stay on the left side to accelerate very early before the “Sainte Beaume” right-hander, which is the most difficult corner of the track. You can lose a lot of time if your car is not well-balanced. Then you are flat out in the left-hand corner at the beginning of the “Mistral” straight, where you reach the top speed..."

Time for glory
To the very end, predictions were made on the teams who would win the season. In LMP1, before a mechanical failure, Henri Pescarolo's team believed they would make it and Jean-Christophe Boullion's driving talent nearly brought the team the same remarkable achievement as in 2006. They finish second in the classification, an impressive feat of David against Goliath.
Finally the British Aston Martin Team wins the 2009 title, exactly 50 years after the victory of the manufacturer in the Sports Car World Championship! A well deserved tribute to the history of the British brand.
In LMP2, the Portuguese team Quifel ASM, in spite of a shortened race, wins the title in its category concluding a very successful season for Olivier Pla and Miguel Amaral.
In LMGT1, the Luc Alphand Team, after a difficult season, had two happy experiences during the weekend: the return of their leader Luc Alphand in grand shape and winning the season with their Corvette C6.R n°72.
In LMP2, just the once won't hurt: the battle raged until the last minute! The Felbermayr Proton Germans win this season by one small point in front of their opponents JMW Motorsport! In other words it was shoulder to shoulder and the smallest point had its importance including the one given during the qualifications to the team in pole position!
Last but not least we congratulate the team combining performance and energy saving: the Speedy Racing team Sebbah was awarded the Michelin Green X Challenge trophy.
If we are already looking towards the next season, we would like to take the time to thank all the teams who have fought for their colours during the season and at the same time for those of Endurance racing.

Pescarolo: the amazing recovery!
The #007 Lola-Aston Martin ruled absolutely the very beginning of the race, but now spectators are only watching Jean-Christophe Boullion's Pescarolo.
The French driver, who started from the back of the grid because he went off yesterday during the qualifying session, is catching up in such an amazing way that race-fans should remember for a while.
After a very tough fight with Nicolas Lapierre and his #10 Oreca Matmut AIM, who started on pole, Jean-Christophe, whose chances for the 2009 title are still alive, is now leading the field. The 2006 winner is really teaching a racing lesson!

Autosport 1000 Km of Silverstone qualifying / Oreca: front row for the last round!
Team Oreca-Matmut AIM made a strong come back and posted the best time. The French team had decided not to enter the race at Nürburgring and so lost all chances for the title, but would like to end the season on a high note as a reward for the hard team work, as Nicolas Lapierre explained: “The practice sessions went well and the balance was getting better and better. Our package works well here and we want to finish the race tomorrow. It would be good for us to take the victory because we have been trying to win since the beginning of the season, but traffic and reliability will be key factors tomorrow.”

Aston Martin Racing: ready to fight for the season titles!
Fresh from its amazing podium clean sweep at the ADAC NĂĽrburgring 1000km in August, the Aston Martin Racing squad is getting ready to shine at the top of the time sheets, especially here, for their home race.
As the teams and drivers titles are within reach, the fans are getting very excited, partly because Aston Martin and Aston Martin Racing's headquarters are less than 30 miles away from the Silverstone circuit.
We have to keep in mind that 2009 is the 50th anniversary of the DBR1's victory in the World Sportscar Championship. This car, which is forever engraved on the memory, should run one lap on Sunday before its descendants start the race in their Gulf Oil livery.
