A much awaited come back 2010/09/01 A much awaited come back

On September 10th, 11th and 12th the last 2010 Le Mans Series race will be held on the famous Silverstone track. For the occasion, Nigel Mansell will be back in the paddock in his best role: driver. At his side, his two sons Leo and Greg will relay him. After an incredible accident during the Le Mans 24 Hours, Nigel wasn't able to participate in the last rounds in Portugal and Hungary. Absent at the 1000Km of Algarve, the Beechdean Mansell Team won its first victory at the 1000Km of Hungaroring. Very proud of his sons, Nigel was there to salute their success on this sinuous track, much appreciated by him. On this technical layout, the Formula 1 Champion passed the finishing line in first position four times during his career.

Strakka Racing makes history! 2010/08/24 Strakka Racing makes history!

The twists and turns of the Hungaroring test cars and drivers to the absolute limit. With a high level of down force, exceptionally low grip and high track temperatures, the 1,000Km of Hungaroring have been very demanding on drivers, teams and cars.

Nobody could hold a candle to Strakka Racing's Danny Watts on Sunday morning's qualifying in Hungary, and the British team's overall victory made history with the very first overall victory for a LMP2 car in the Le Mans Series.

Jonny Kane, Nick Leventis and Danny Watts have been pretty invincible as the Strakka Racing HPD ran without the slightest technical problems over the entire distance and scored its second victory in LMP2 and first overall in the 2010 season today.

The improbable race! 2010/08/22 The improbable race!

A podium trusted by the LMP2s, who could imagine? Could you foresee when arriving on the Hungarian track that one hour before the finish of the race, two LMP1s (N°4 Team Beechdean Mansell and N°8 Team Siganture Plus) would save the King category's honour among the ten first classified while the LMP2s would take the lion's share, trusting the five first places from half the race on?

After 5 hours 2010/08/22 After 5 hours
At one hour before the chequered flag is shown, the show is a première in the Le Mans Series history. An original classification with five LMP2s leading the pack. Team Beechdean Mansell is the only one to save the King category's honour remaining in the top tens. The trend is the same on the GT side. The LMGT2s overtake the powerful GT1s. Eight of them are ahead the Saleen S7-R (n°50 - Larbre Competition) which ranks 17.

After three hours 2010/08/22 After three hours
After three hours of competition spins are part and parcel of the race. At half way, the drivers must be very cautious. But prudence was not part and parcel of the Saleen S7-R driving which introduced the safety car on the track after having slipped off at the end of the straight line. This incident could allow Larbre Compétition to be the 2010 champion this evening.

After two hours 2010/08/22 After two hours
After two hours of race now, the LMP1s have resumed control and are firmly decided to show who the boss is! Starting from the bottom of the grid (due to a change of tyres after the qualifications), the Signature Plus Lola Aston Martin has quickly worked its way through the pack to reach the fifth position. The LMP2s fiercely resist their big sisters assaults, but the lap time they are able to achieve does not give them many chances.

The class war keeps on going! 2010/08/22 The class war keeps on going!

Five LMP1 cars versus five LMP2 cars are in the Top 10 at the end of the third free practice session, which has been disrupted by two red flags. 25 minutes in the session, the IMSA Performance Matmut Porsche went off and ten minutes before the checkered flag, the CRS Racing Ferrari went on fire. The cars came back to the pits and it marked the end of today's free practice sessions.

First time in Hungary for Vanina Ickx 2010/08/21 First time in Hungary for Vanina Ickx
Just out of her LMP1 Lola Aston Martin, Vanina Ickx gives us her thoughts about her first laps on the Hungaroring layout. Amazed to see five categories gathered on this track, the Belgian lady driver has discovered "a tight sinuous circuit where vigilance shall be a must. The incident is behind each corner and the difference between the various speed averages is significant. LMGT1s and LMGT2s will have a hard job to rise in the classification, so the prototypes approaching their rear view mirrors will not be their major concern. P1s and P2s will have to be cautious to go through the traffic without taking any risk". She is not afraid by this difficulty. The race will be demanding, a major challenge for her debuts in Hungary. Vanina is very confident and well backed up by a skilled team.

First Le Mans Series session on the Hungaroring 2010/08/21 First Le Mans Series session on the Hungaroring
The first free practice session is just over, giving a hint of the starting grid. In LMP1, Oreca 908 HDi-FAP Peugeot confirms its performances in Algarve, leading in front of LMP2 Strakka Racing's HPD ARX-01c. The LMGT1 two Saleens also confirm the trend with an advantage for Larbre Competition racing drivers. As for the Ferraris F430 GT (n°91 & n°95) of teams CRS Racing and AF Corse, they keep in with their advantage over Team Prospeed's Porsche in the LMGT2 category. The Formulas Le Mans promise interesting fights: four among the seven cars entered run within the same second.

The Hungarian rhapsody 2010/08/17 The Hungarian rhapsody

The Le Mans Series heads to Hungary for the very first time so the 1,000Km of Hungaroring is a leap in the dark for most of teams and drivers. Team ORECA Matmut took their first victory with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP one month ago in Portugal and expects to clinch another one in the heat of the night at Budapest.

The Hungaroring lies just east of Budapest and the Castle District of Buda has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The layout has not been too much modified over the years and the latest changes see the longest lap in the circuit's history with a total distance of 4.384 km.

With its slow corners and its narrow straights, many say its characteristics more closely resemble a street circuit than a purpose-built track. However, its beautiful setting in a natural amphitheatre makes it an excellent venue for spectators. They should enjoy a race that Team ORECA Matmut ex-Formula One driver Olivier Panis predicts tough.

Team ORECA Matmut on a roll 2010/07/18 Team ORECA Matmut on a roll

What a difference two months can make in sportscars racing! Circumstance, excellent strategy and brilliant driving today in Portugal won Team ORECA Matmut its first race with the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP.

The 1000Km of Algarve saw Nicolas Lapierre, Olivier Panis and Stéphane Sarrazin emerge victorious to take their and Team ORECA Matmut's first victory of the 2010 season as they have driven an absolutely faultless race. Given French team's pace this season, it's hard to believe that their victory was only their first win of the season.

In a no full course caution race, the Frenchmen delivered a solid drive, holding fast at the front till the end in front of so many fans who enjoyed a herringbone start, the traditional Le Mans start, for the very first time in the Series.

1000 Km of Algarve - Qualifying - Oreca once again on pole! 2010/07/17 1000 Km of Algarve - Qualifying - Oreca once again on pole!

There hardly is any driver in the paddock that isn't welcoming the return to Portugal, and everyone is excited about the prospect of racing once again on the 4.652-kilometre Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.

Everything came together for Nicolas Lapierre when the flag dropped for the 20-minute qualifying. His last, and quickest lap, with a time of 1:30.681, was enough to secure the French driver his second pole in the 2010 series.

Because the race starts later in the afternoon, the morning schedule of the qualifying session was unusual, but Nicolas Lapierre was fully awake as he was able to repeat last year's pole for team ORECA Matmut.
